I would like to take the time to wish our customers and suppliers all the best for 2019. Thank you to everyone for your support over the past year. As a result of the completion of a number of significant projects, we had a strong finish to 2018. These have put us on a positive trajectory for the year ahead. Some of the highlights of 2018 were the successful completion of a 530kWp commercial rooftop PV project in Benoni. AGE Technologies delivered a complete turnkey solution to our customer, from the design stage through to commissioning. Our customer is now realising significant savings on their energy bills, and we are constantly monitoring the performance of the system at our nerve centre in real-time. Our customer is already planning a roll-out to the rest of their buildings. We are looking forward to continuing with this project during the year ahead.. With the current pressure on Eskom’s network and the expected tariff increases, we are already seeing an increase in demand for solar projects.
On the Industrial side of our business, we completed another turnkey project in the Northern Cape, where AGE Technologies did the design, supply, delivery and commissioning of the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation part of a crusher and materials handling plant. The integration between LV Distribution, MCC, PLC, SCADA and Instrumentation was seamless, all in the supply of one company, which allowed the customer to deliver a plant in a very short period of time. We are currently in final negotiations to secure a larger project for the same customer, which is a clear indication of the good professional relationships AGE Technologies aim to achieve with our customers.
Another highlight in 2018 was the successful completion of a very complex refurbishing project in the tyre and rubber industry. AGE Technologies replaced the DC motors and drives with new Closed Loop AC Variable Speed Drives and AC motors on the customer’s Steel Calendar. All control panels and cables were stripped out and replaced with new cables and control panels. The multi-million rand project was successfully commissioned over their December shutdown. This project is a great example of what can be achieved with excellent teamwork between a contractor and customer.
Our Energy business also picked up a lot of momentum in 2018. As an EcoXpert partner, we are monitoring energy usage and quality on our customers’ sites and provide them with monthly reports and recommendations on their energy usage. In one example, we saved the customer R450k per month, by implementing our recommendations.
I am expecting 2019 to be the year in which our economy will move into a growth phase, as we see more policy certainty after the elections in May. We are already seeing an increase in project proposals and are looking forward to a number of greenfield projects that will start soon and implementation will run over 12 to 18 months.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information on our offering. We look forward to partnering with you in 2019.
